Lecarrow

The Native Woodland Trust acquired site across the public road from St John’s Wood in Roscommon, believed to be one of Ireland’s few remaining ancient woodlands. The site is made up of some newer woodland and formerly agriculture fields.

The “big field” by the entrance to the secondary site is being maintained as a wildflower meadow because of the diversity of plant species found there.

There is also space at the entrance for the creation of another tree nursery dedicated to cultivating seeds from the old seed stock of St John’s Wood, where we have been granted a license to collect seeds. There are ruins on site including a brilliant preserved old road way with stone walls and stiles.

Location

Lecarrow, Co. Roscommon.
