Our Woodlands
We currently own and manage a network of native woodland across Ireland, covering every province and incorporating a mosaic of other habitats, including rivers and other wetlands.
All of our sites are generally open to the public and accessible to visitors. They are also often strategically placed – adjacent to public greenways or protected areas, such as Special Areas of Conservation and National Parks.
Several of our woods are also some of the rarest types – ancient woodlands which have descended from the original primeval forests that once blanketed all of Ireland. These woodlands are the last refuges of many species and are now reduced to as little as 0.1% of their original extent.

Our Nurseries
As part of our mission to restore and expand our rare and unique ancient woodlands, we have built a series of tree nurseries across Ireland. These allow us to collect seed which is from the same local area as our woodlands – often from the woods themselves, in order to preserve their genetic integrity.
We also use these nurseries to grow rare species, trees such as the Irish Whitebeam or the Rockforest Scots Pine – the only known locality of native pines in Ireland. These nurseries provide a special opportunity for people to get involved in restoring their own local forests – by collecting seed with us, helping to grow them in our nurseries and ultimately planting them in new permanent woodlands which are protected in perpetuity.
